I come from the world of the theatre. I am passionate about plays. I have, in the past, done pretty much everything when it comes to theatre: writing, directing, stage management, lights, sound, costumes, and producing. But my first love has always been acting.
But I have this other side: administrative, organized, business-like. Sometime those two worlds: the arts and business, are like water and oil. They don't mix.
But I believe they do. I believe that we, as artists, can be successful and make money and survive and thrive. We just need to change our thinking, make a paradigm shift, and start to think of ourselves more as a business.
I make a living as a theatre publicist, doing marketing work for arts organizations. But this podcast is dedicated to artists who are serious about taking their work seriously.
